How to Install a Printer
In this article I will explain how to install a printer
quickly and easily so that you don't have to go through too many unnecessary
steps. So let's start:
The essential points
are:
Connect the printer
to the computer
install the management software and have the device
recognized by the system
if we are working with an ink printer, we also need to
install the ink cartridges
Step 1: First you
need to check if we have the connection cable, very often it is delivered with
the printer, otherwise, we have to buy it ourselves.
There are mainly two connection systems:
·
USB cable
·
parallel
port
Now we find almost all printers with USB connection and in
any case the parallel port is located next to the USB input.
Depending on the type of connection, the Printer installation
steps, which in any case are roughly the same, vary slightly in the sequence of
the first connection to the PC…
USB printer:
1. When prompted, connect the printer to the power supply
via the power cable. power supply
2. Install the software contained in the CDROM enclosed with
the printer package, or download it from the manufacturer's website first…
3. Connect the USB cable to the printer and then to the
computer
4. Turn on the printer using the ON / OFF button sometimes
called POWER ... an indicator light should come on
Having been requested by the system, the installation is now
complete.
PARALLEL port printer
(LPT1):
1. When prompted, connect the printer to the power supply
through the power cable
2. Connect the USB cable to the printer and then to the
computer
3. Turn on the printer using the ON / OFF button sometimes
called POWER … An indicator light should come on
4. Install the software contained in the CDROM enclosed with
the printer package, or download it first from the manufacturer's website…
As you can see, the main difference lies in the fact that
for USB peripherals we must first install the software with the device
disconnected, and only then connect it to the PC which will thus already have
all the drivers necessary to recognize it.
in the case of the LPT1 printer we may not have real
software to install but simply only the drivers ... in this case the drivers will
be supplied to the system during the installation procedure. In the meantime,
let's see the difference of the USB or PARALLEL connection cables

This is another image representing the USB connection cable
more closely ... although the coupling is different, it is a USB cable ... the
largest part in a parallelepiped (rectangle) is the classic USB socket.
