Common Problems With The Printer

A list of the most common problems with your printer

THE MOST COMMON PROBLEMS WITH THE PRINTER:

Here is a list of the most frequent problems that can occur with your printer ...

Error During Writing On Lpt1

First of all, we check the correct connection of the printer power cables ...

Each cable must be firmly connected to its input; The cables and hooks on the market differ from each other according to the type of communication port they use ...

The most common are undoubtedly the parallel cable and the usb cable (but the use of wireless peripherals is spreading i.e. wireless, and fireware ports )

We check that no red LED is present when we turn on the printer or while we are preparing to print .... the LEDs are used to visually signal the user if we have run into any problems ... To be everything OK this LED must be green ; if it is red or not present, then there is a problem.

In each of these cases it is likely that some connection (I speak of cables) is missing or badly positioned.

We also check that the printer is equipped with every component necessary for printing, so in addition to the connection cables, we check the correct insertion of the ink cartridges in the appropriate slot

Sometimes it even happens that the printer does not work even if it is well connected and equipped with every component due to an incorrect configuration of the printer drivers .

In this case, check the drivers that the system has taken for the printer in use, and eventually remove the printer completely via software as shown in the figure by clicking on the DELETE .... option,
Then adding it again later, being careful to insert the right drivers

Blocking The System If You Send The Printing Process

Often this is synonymous with a system lacking in resources, especially in RAM memory and when you have an underpowered processor ...

What you can do is:

Avoid using multiple programs at the same time as the print process, rather close any other open or background applications
Switch to a more powerful system or improve the current one by adding RAM

ERROR MESSAGE TIMEOUT * * ...
Usually happens for laser printers ... This error means that we have gone beyond the default time to complete the print job because of a too large document ...

must then go to inside the Printers folder, right click on the icon of the printer in use, select Properties and then Details .

Here appears the window with the text Timeout settings ... change the times to make them wider (raise them at least 5 times).

Print Speed Too Slow
The problem may lie in having set the wrong or too old or not yet suitable drivers for the operating system in use ... reinstall the most updated drivers for the device

The problem may be due to an incorrect BIOS setting of the printer port.
Go in the case on the BIOS settings (Restarting and pressing CANC or F2 or F12 ... it depends on the motherboard.

Now let's check the settings of the data transfer mode of the parallel port, setting the field on ECP / EPP . Let's see in detail how to do it according to the various types of BIOS on the market
If you have a BIOS AWARD go to the INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS section and then to Parallel Port Mode .

In the AMI BIOS you will set the parameter from SETUP , PERIPHERALS ,Parallel Port Mode .
In a PHOENIX BIOS you will go to ADVANCED , PERIPHERALS CONFIGURATIONS

Incomplete Prints Or On Different Pages

The problem is opposite to that described in the previous case of a low Print Speed , so we enter the BIOS as described above and set the port instead of ECP + EPP to a more modest value ... for example SPP

System Lock In The Presence Of Two Devices On A Parallel Interface

Disable the bi-directional data transfer of the printer by going to the Printers folder and then right-click on the icon of the printer in use, select Properties and then Details .

Now click on Set Spooler by selecting the Disable bidirectional support for the printer check box

The Printer Blocks While Printing Same

procedure as described above ... in addition, it is necessary to check the drivers installed for the printer and possibly update them

Print Quality Unsatisfactory
This problem can depend on various factors .....

Type of paper used

The paper is very important to obtain quality prints ... clearly this does not apply to text-only prints, but certainly it must be taken into consideration for those who print photos or drawings ...
On the market there are many types of paper for every need you may have ...

Printheads and ink cartridge level

Needless to say that if the printheads, i.e. small needles or plates with nozzles that deal with color deposition, are dirty, the quality will not be the best ...

It is necessary in this case perform several times in the cleaning cycle of your printer (the software of the peripheral itself should allow it without problems).

Also it is good to check that there is enough color in the cartridges and that there are no piles of dust or dirt in the critical points such as the nozzles for the color leakage

Setup

If you set a photo print as "fast printing in color saving mode" it is clear that we should not expect much from the result ...

always look for the right compromise between quality / paper used / depending on what you need to print

Beware of non-original cartridges .... those that work well are very few!
